Thread: no sound Lucid 10.04

hi community:

after installing openoffice, discovered had no sound @ all.



checked system > preference > sound, , things seemed ok under hardware , output tabs.

went through ubuntun community sound troubleshooting protocol (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/soundtroubleshooting), no avail: no sound.



scoured web , found:

think big mistake!!! when did system > preference > sound, there no hardware under hardware tab.

can please suggest might restore sound?

are sure there wasn't update caused problem? try booting earlier kernel. can earlier kernel selecting boot menu when computer turns on. if have ubuntu installed may need hold shift or ctrl keys down pop up. right after bios screen.
