Thread: noob can't get pgp encryption key to create

hey there, i'm using ubuntu 11.04 64bit , when try create pgp key sits there forever saying 'primegen' never finishes. started seahorse sudo terminal , gives error "couldn't default keyring name: error communicating gnome-keyring daemon" got keys create 1 time somehow test keys , appeared under seahorse running without sudo confusing. ideas or help, in advance.

ok, first, should not have run normal program root (i.e. using sudo); administration tasks only. (as matter of note, if run gui program root, use gksudo , not sudo.)

second, not clear post how tried create key. trying create gpg key (gpg open-source equivalent of pgp) using programs come ubuntu, or using in seahorse?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
