Thread: Speakers are not working

hi,
im new linux, installed 2 days ago & working fine, except sound.
can hear sound in headphones not speakers..googled & checked many posts,solutions made me confused,cuz cant find out whats problem.
last thing tried alsamixer & still nothing.
can help? annoying think have put on headset foreveeeeer??
& thank in advance.

edit:

intel corporation n10/ich 7 family high definition audio controller (rev 01)
installed ubuntu 11.10 32-bit on desktop(a bit old)..
attached file (alsa info) saw in other post, if helps.

installed ubuntu 11.10 64-bit? on brand , model of laptop/desktop? if open terminal window , enter command:
lspci
1 of output lines describes sound device. please copy/paste message.

it's lot easier when provide facts.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
