Thread: System no longer boots to Unity, can't get passed login screen.

everything's been going fine untill today
when tried boot unity desktop.
boot process takes me graphical
login screen system asks password.
enter it, system tries log me in, to
come again asking password.
not report invalid password, refuses
proceed unity desktop.
command console, ctrl+alt+f1, accepts usual username , password.

need, guess, repairing graphical login screen.

have had occasional incidental login problems in past
graphical login screen not accept password.
entered correctly.
case today, there no report of invalid password.
system (until today) moved on unity desktop after entry of password second time.
login screen show pixelation, 5 10% of screen.
correlated failed logins occurence of such pixelation in login screen.
don't know how strong correlation is,
wonder if suggests problem graphic hardware?
haven't had other discernible graphics problems.

bump: i'm getting same problem after update manager's update today. don't know start troubleshooting.
