Copying from Elements to Word

i trying move feathered photo (using cookie cutter)  elements screen a  colored page word document.    can move ok.   feathered.  still has a   square white background surrounding feather.  .  when @ the  layer panel , transparent  added layer showing nothing.   selection did not appear on layer.  background  feathered.  what doing wrong?     bud waite

how moving file on word? doesn't seem can click , drag elements window word window. if saving file , importing image, saving jpeg. try format supports transparency, tiff

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
