Cross dissolve problem

hello -  in 1 frame have following: http://www.proofreading4students.com/framea.jpg and in next frame have http://www.proofreading4students.com/frameb.jpg i have 6-sec cross dissolve in middle cannot see second image (frame b) emerge under first image. doing wrong, please?

learn 'handles'. must make sure have 6 seconds of material on 2 clips dissolve work correctly. if center dissolve left clip needs have 3 seconds on end , right clip 3 seconds on beginning create 6 second long handles.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
