Do I use a number list or another method?

hello, new indesign. working on book project 2 column layout. every paragraph in columns has number prefixing it. better understand mean, every paragraph verse , numbered same way bible has verses numbered in chapters.

 

example:

 

1. sort of text go here

and words should be

indented away number

and not flow beneath you

you see here.

 

2. there more verses

that appear in same

manner way bottom

of column.

 

so have watched many videos , still cannot figure out best method type of layout. use numbered list or there better way? appreciate advice.

if text placing/writing conducive numbered paragraph scheme, use it.
