Thread: Cannot connect to WLAN / Atheros AR5001 / Ubuntu 11.04
basically wireless adapter sees network fails when obtaining ip address dhcp. running ubuntu 11.04 64bit on toshiba satellite laptop atheros ar5001 wireless adapter using ath5k driver. connected via wired connection. wireless work if boot live usb.
background on issue:
installed 11.04 dual boot win 7 , after installation had wireless connection. when waking suspend fail connect. happen maybe once every couple days or so. not connect if rebooted. go wired connection or walk away , in few hours wake again , have no problem connecting. searched internet solution , found had success switching wicd. installed wicd , removed network manager. after went broken wireless connection wlan catastrophe. never establish wireless connection wicd although see wlan. stall trying obtain ip address regardless if used static ip or not. figured better off network manager reinstalled , removed wicd. still have no wireless , there no tray icon there network manager. searching network manager in applications yields nothing shows being installed in ubuntu software center. decided best seek assistance before try "fix" anymore.
