Thread: Doesn't recognize wireless network

i'm new ubuntu user of 45 minutes ago please bear me.

installed ubuntu on laptop , want connect internet wirelessly. whatever reason though, wireless network isn't showing on list under "wireless". know it's not problem network, because connected wirelessly on second desktop.. how i'm typing thread right now.

i've gone through ubuntu documents , says should

click networkmanager icon in system notification area.
i feel complete idiot because above means absolutely nothing me. don't know system notification area , i've been searching can't find it, hence unable locate "networkmanager" icon.

have found wireless network isn't on list going system > preferences > network connections. however, don't know if right place, confusing me more.

appreciated far seems overwhelming leap windows.

your network should show on panel network icon list if drivers installed, wireless chipsets supported on ubuntu, aren't broadcom brand chipsets , need install drivers, find out wireless chipset brand , model can you, post output of command
code:
sudo lshw -c network
this tell wireless card
