Thread: Oops. Lost grub.

hi all,
laptop, dual boot vista. went vista, or thought did, seemed recovery partition. answered 'no' 'do want this, that' yadda recovery questions , rebooted find no grub.
i've tried 'boot repair' auto-repair said had fixed it, when tried rebooting went straight vista.
oh, yeah, thing. home encrypted , can't find key, sort of of repair rather re-install nice. duh. know. running 10.10, sigh

believe or not, there entire articles written reinstalling grub; it's such common issue. granted, of time people installing windows scratch after installing ubuntu rather running system repair, comes down same thing:

recommend taking ubuntu cd (if it's still handy), , downloading & running boot repair in livecd environment. should , running in no time.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
