Thread: package transfer and instal

hello,just installed ubuntu 10.04 ,i'm new it
, had debian 5 dvd full of packages inside,but deal how free package installed on ubuntu machine

tried decomenting first line of source.list,but first line of dvd installed os,
later run command apt-cdrom add
said no package found on dvd
i'm trying find way out,but till none

have run update manager yet, first see if there security , application updates available installation have ?

if not, may want first. after that, may want go ahead , upgrade installation 10.04 on through 10.10, possibly on through 11.04 latest version, 11.10.

if new, may begin working in @ current version.

if upgrade, use software center see if there applications suit needs , version. if don't want upgrade, perhaps consider looking through synaptic package manager, see if there not applications suit needs , version.
