i've installed pidgin software centre , see integrates fine messaging menu. in fact, notifies me of new conversations bit more accurately empathy.

because of emptahy's integration, dangerous remove (via software centre)?

one of first jobs when installing ubuntu remove empathy (along gwibber, computer janitor, etc.).
no crashes whatsoever after removal.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
