Thread: run program on ssh server, then shutdown local machine - problem

hello!
want following:
log on ssh server run program takes looong time finish. in meantime might happen want shut down local computer. when login ssh later see program started terminated before finished.
how can have program running on remote server via ssh without being logged in time?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
