Save-as and Open Dialogue box options. ~ Windows style vs Adobe style

i have 2 pc's side-by-side, running same version of cs6. on 1 pc, can see libraries "save as" , "open" dialogue boxes , on other have can't have have dig down find folders want save to. don't have plug-ins installed, , have not edited registry. i'm sure it's preference somewhere, can't find it. help! it's making me crazy!

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
