Thread: change wallpaper by calendar date

hi,

i'm wanting change wallpaper daily, each date particular wallpaper shown (i have scans of old farside desk calendar, cartoon each day, , want show right date each day).

ideas how might go (ubuntu 11.10)?

ubuntu uses script keeps each background image on screen set number of seconds , image changes next image in list. script has start date midnight 4th august 2009.

not know how script gets time or how counts. if starts counting booting of computer of no you. if count began @ midnight 4th august 2009 , how uses time , date of bios need edit script point images , change duration of image reflect number of seconds in 24 hours. un-tested.

find script @ /usr/share/backgrounds/contest. called background-1.xml. note background images in /usr/share/backgrounds , not in contest folder.

in 10.10 , 11.04 there 2 slide shows on offer. method create second folder in /usr/share/backgrounds , put additional background images in there along modified background-1.xml script. name not changed paths new images different.

have copies of scripts , background images 10.10 , 11.04 , can confirm scripts 10.10 11.10 start 4th august 2009.

suggest not change start date. might try making copy of script , changing duration timings , using modified script in place of original script. in way might find out if background image changes every 24 hours before modifying script point images. save wasted effort.
