Thread: Help compiling files for install and ./configure command

i've switched on linux/ubuntu, using version 11.10 (oneiric ocelot), cannot figure out how life of me compile source code command terminal install anything. i've been trying latest version of tor, start-tor-browser shell script, can run double clicking , seems work fine, though opens no program icon in task bar. search in dash it's not there. want install can keep in launcher.

of instructions compile source code file, tried to, ./configure command never found/doesn't work, cd directory file in via terminal, gives me "not valid command" response. i've added repositories etc/sources.list through synaptic manager , have keys.

missing use it?

chmod +x configure
./configure

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
