Thread: Lost all data in partition on Ubuntu server

hi,

strangest thing happened ubuntu 8.04 server...
run headless server backend mythtv, have 2 frontends.
running 8 disks in 2 partitions, controlled hw raid card, running raid5.
when daughter watching recorded tv show on 1 of frontends today screen went black of sudden.
when logged on server putty check had happened partition in question totally empty, 1 tb of data had mysteriously vanished!

common phenomenon?
what, if anything, can recover data?

before attempting recover try find out happened. since have hardware raid problem raid controller. if case, data @ risk , may corrupted. there indication of failure in log files?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
