Thread: Oneiric/G4 PPC Powerbook: Unlikely - is there an issue with User Accounts Settings?
this bit of odd one, , i'm checking see if there processor-specific before ascribe problem personal slovenliness or similar.
on past few days, i've been putting ubuntu onto donated powerbook g4. expected has faced number of false starts, have 11.10 running nicely in general, , i'm clearing few residual snags.
1 not expecting in adding user accounts. i'd set own account during installation process. point later, tried add account son use, , (more significantly) account charity own box...
going through normal user accounts control panel, seems ok, except no other accounts ever listed the left-hand list. neither show on list of accounts on login.
undaunted, (i've used unix 30 years), go , dig around in /etc/ see if can same thing editing /etc/{passwd,group,shadow.passwd etc}.
still doesn't show accounts in login window, pity, if choose "other" , log in that, username shows "[invalid utf-8] in top rh corner of screen.
can't see how processor possibly affect behaviour, thought i'd ask in case.. alternatively, have not been able find docs of how control-panel-installed user accounts differ manually-added ones (some grepping around doesn't show me difference).
hints gratefully recieved.
