Thread: Should I install Ubuntu? What reasons are there?

hello! extremely new member of community, if can considered one. , wondering reasons there me install ubuntu onto computer.

have no experience programming applications. right now, running windows vista. big gamer, , super-majority of gaming on pc. i've been told people ubuntu/linux can't run steam games, or games windows in general.

aspire become programmer , general "tech guru", , have started teach myself python. i'm interested in ubuntu , programming , computers, can't think of reason myself install it.

family friend suggested use ubuntu when having problems primary os. burned me copy of ubuntu install if couldn't fix problem, did fix problem , disk sitting on desk.

tl;dr i'm not programmer (yet), gamer. why should dual boot install ubuntu on pc if won't used?

in word; don't.

if windows ok you, use whatever works best you. programming!

may decide come ubuntu when you're ready. instance, api(s) is/are open-source , better-documented imo. , setting programming little easier, , closer hardware.

tl;dr - don't.

ps-just pop little disc in , boot it...you know want to. seriously, why don't try it? can boot cd , not change os @ all. booting cd slow.
