Thread: Trying to recover 10.04 from 10.10 upgrade crash
during upgrade 10.04lts 10.10, toshiba satellite laptop suffered power supply loss(running on mains adaptor ) @ time during installation of downloaded files.
restoring power showed 10.04 splash screen, got far showing old desktop folder in place, pop-up repeatedly flashed view 0.1 second @ time says
the tracker mouse icon non-operative tried keyboard strokes doesn't work during brief appearance of pop-up.the panel encountered problem while loading "oafid:gnome_fastuserswitchapplet"
delete don't delete
i've rebooted , tried grub menu -
"10.04.3 lts, 2.6.32-12-rtai recovery mode" gets line
with flashing cursor @ bottom, no change on >10 minutes.[ 1.850837]exts-fs: mounted filesystem ordered data mode.

other recovery kernels offered same end line, exception of 10.04 lts 2.6.24-16 rtai quotes variety of problems, finishing[ 1.862216]exts-fs: mounted filesystem ordered data mode.

this time active flashing cursor, , led me via 'help' list.busybox v1.13.3(ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built in shell (ash)

tried sudo apt-get clean command suggested on forum thread, didn't find sudo command.
there else can try before go new clean installation ?
few recent folders lost, nothing disastrous.

if system doesn't find sudo command, seems badly damaged. may better - prevent future problems - fresh install, in particular if can backup things need easily.
