Thread: 100% CPU usage in Wine, not experienced until now

sometimes play emperor: rise of middle kingdom , worked flawlessly ubuntu 10.04 , whatever wine version available @ time. has platinum ubuntu ratings on winehq database , should run long set windowed mode.

however, ubuntu 11.10 game exe file uses @ least 70% of cpu , regularly shoots 100% causing terrible lag. tried different versions of wine , display modes (with virtual desktop, without), running in unity 2d envionment produce same results.

hardware same (except swapping of default ram chip 2 newer ones), installation files same.

tried searching answer there seems different cases of 100% usage sorts of things. not find case particular game though.

game ancient , requires 400 mhz cpu / 64 mb of ram / 4mb graphics card.
have dell inspiron 6400 / intel core duo 2ghz / 2gb of ram / 128 mb ati x1400 video card.

cause this? downgrade in ubuntu possibly help?

live without can not understand why working start kill laptop.

it can either video driver (which doubt, since have gpu load not cpu), or newer kernel having bug. try installing older or newer version beta repositories, otherwise choice roll 10.04

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
