despite sorts of attempts access sony ericsson k608i phone via usb port in ubuntu not being recognised being connected. therefore proposing install winxp on spare hd in current computer.


agree best way unplug other cables existing hd's? install winxp on 1 remaining hd, , reconnect other hd's. choose os system via bios order of boot.

yeah, can unplug others make sure windows bootloader goes same disk. windows unintelligent that.
doesn't mean have choose in bios each time, waste of time.

after xp installed , connect other disks, boot ubuntu normal (first time it's still not aware of xp) , in terminal run:
sudo update-grub

detect xp , make entry in grub2 boot menu it. can select want boot without touching bios.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
