Thread: Did my Kubuntu 10.10 overwrite FAT during reboot?

i have desktop system kubuntu 10.10 , windows 7. kubuntu used main system, in last year worked lot windows (only used linux on laptop). today accidentally told grub start kubuntu 10.10 (which still default os). restarted , switched windows 7. noticed lot of files in fat32 f: partition not visible, have been erased kubuntu. partition mounted in kubuntu /media/fat32. kubuntu had old fat table stored somewhere in ram, saved disk part of hibernation process, , today copied on f:, deleting files created in last year? running chkdsk on f: in windows able recreate single directory called found.000 seems contain (around 13.6 gb) file names quite meaningless , no directory hierarchy seems have been preserved. directory visible kubuntu not windows.

problem? how can solve it? understand whether found.000 data , in case how can recover it. thank you, have nice day.

dario

it's difficult recover files found.000 because files still there, don't have information attached them dates or file or folder names. it's been converted hex code or something. try software testdisk - that's hope.
