Thread: Problem booting USB stick on HP G71-340us

boot usb stick halts "syslinux 4.03 2010-10-22 ..." , flashing cursor.
attempting run usb live 11.10 x64, tried natty , kubuntu 11.10 same results.
hp laptop g71-340us bios .23 (latest), patriot xt 8gb stick. 11.10 x64 live .iso /unetbootin win 565 +4gb persistance. machine boots iso on cd fine optical not preferred running live session.
had problem , solved on g71 or like?
note tested usb stick on asus/amd desktop , booted/ran fine there.

i right dealing similar problem.
has way how ubuntu startup disk creator (i suppose use either or unetbootin) makes usb sticks , way how hp laptops see them. long story, short: not each other.

there workaround hier in forum worked me:
instead of using unetbootin perform command
sudo dd if=yourubuntuisofile.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=1m

notice /dev/sdc should letter usb stick got system, might different letter you. notice lack of number, i.e. not /dev/sdc1, /dev/sdc.

after system boots.

1 thing: have not yet figured how cater persistence file, working on right now.


please write hier whether solution works (i.e. able @ least boot it)

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
