Cannot install Updated Flash Player

i've tried several times without success update adobe flash player software version 11.7.700.169. here's happens: whenever need use flash player, told current version "vulnerable" , automatically connected adobe installation page. click on "download now," and  rectangle appears says, "preparing installation. please wait," along progress bar. once progress bar stops , rectangle goes away, no opening dialog box appears. in fact, nothing appears. know how can past point or how might update flash player software way? thanks.

 

i have thinkpad t61 laptop windows xp professional 32-bit operating system, , browse firefox 20.0.1.

download , run offline installer http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header (under header progress bar hangs).

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
