Is there any way to recover a damaged psd file?

i'm sure answer no thought worth asking. have photoshop elements 6.0. working on image 3 layers , i'd been saving regularly, computer crashed. didn't crash while saving must have still been saving when happened because file got damaged. when open it, comes message saying 'this document contains adobe photoshop data appears damaged. continue , ignore photoshop data?' when click ok says 'the embedded icc profile cannot used because icc profile descrition invalid. ignoring profile'. when image opens flat , black. i've tries few recovery programmes didn't seem work. found temp file don't think it'ss real temp file because doesn't have extension. can help?

what operating system using?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
