Questions about keyboard shortcuts and copying layers

i have issue behaviour of alpha channels , layers.

 

i have upgraded latest version.

 

i have tried resetting preferences per julianne cost's key board short cut (kbsc) method.  none of preferences reset.

 

i still have saved workspaces available etc etc.

 

after making selection in channels pallet , saving using "save selection channel" button have appears bug when trying import selection layers panel.

 

i make selection.  save channel.  make selection active.

 

then switch on layers pallet.  try copy selection across using kbsc 'cmd j'.

 

on first attempt exact copy of layer (in single layer document).

 

however, when use same kbsc second time (immediately after first attempt - no changes) third layer created has selection masked.

 

so after process in single layer document layers stack follows (i have layed them out if in layers pallet).

 

     layer 1 (with selection)

 

     background copy (an exact copy)

 

     background (with lock icon).

 

any ideas?  doing wrong?
