Thread: Can't install on old Dell Precision

i have strange installation problem on dell precision 420 mt dual xeon processors.

have older version of fedora installed in hd (fc6) runs fine. if place ubuntu live cd (11.10) in drive while fc6 running , reads perfectly. when try booting cd freezes @ point during network configuration step. if press esc key during boot see message reads "can't find /dev/sdx..." sdx sdb and/or sdc. if instead of inserting ubuntu cd place xp installation disk boots perfectly. tried booting same ubuntu cd on different machine , boots fine. unetbootin generated bootable usb drive used boot. again, same issue. concluded not cd nor flash drive, in machine ubuntu not like. bios latest version (a13) , tried different things, such disabling network, disabling 1 of processors, etc., no avail.

wonder if have ideas on this.
