Thread: high cpu usage when checking updates

hi all, when open update manager & check updates can hear fan getting loud, same thing when open software center. checked system monitor , cpu goes 100%. can see in screen shot below. anyways normal or wrong? have acer aspire 5735 laptop 11.10 installed on it. advice or appreciated. thanks.

if @ graph see 1 core of cpu going 100% while other doing nothing. also, peak rather short period of time. can't fan cheaper acer notebooks have pretty small cache , rather poor thermal management, driven firmware. have acer similar yours , fans acting similar yours independent of os used.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
