Thread: how to clone a Windows HDD?

hi folks,

need clone hard disk drive friend of mine, wants backup , insistent wont selectively choose copy. so, how shall this? (it's important there free beer in me).
computer sony vaio windows7 (or maybe xp) on it.

thoughts boot live usb version , used:
code:
dd if=whereeverc:is of=/dev/sdb(or whatever external drive is)
or that.

plan?? work? drive bootable? if count copyright infringement? (i assume backup purposes still legit). if wont work have suggestion how clone drive? either live usb or inside windows itself.

suggestions , issue.

windows typically not run on usb drive if that's you're trying do, link works me if copying new internal drive:

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
