Why won't LR import my photos anymore?

i have been using canon 7d (for 18months) , iphone 5 (for 6 months) on imac (3 years) , happily importing pictures. until february year.

 

i started getting erratic behaviour lightroom - opening sometimes. not opening. selectively importing (not video files either canon or iphone).

 

and now, importing nothing @ all. saying files can't read.

 

i have been (with imac , lightroom catalogue on hard drive , disc) genius bar @ apple 4 times since january. , don't believe problem lies hardware @ all.

 

anyone else come across problem??

 

lightroom opening fine (now). can access existing catalogue, , can preview (and select) files camera want import , assign put them. error message saying can't read.

 

what's going on?? , can it??

 

i'm @ end of tether , need help.

and don't believe problem lies hardware @ all.

and yet lightroom hasn't changed. it's still same software before.

 

over time, hardware can change, more unlikely (but not impossible) software change.

 

have tried debugging hardware itself, using different camera cards , different hardware transfer methods?
