Importing of MTS files

i using pp cs5 , trying import footage cameraman shot sonynexvg20.... file such when folders clicked on, folder called private, avchd, bdmv, stream resides bumch of mts files. upon trying access through media browswer, ab le import of them @ once, when brought timeline, play choppy , break up... tried dragging on files new item feature, still same result. have project using canon mxf files , these mts files , mts ones playing poorly... have suggestions why is? project 1280x720 29.97. thanks, steve
