JPG vs TIFF vs PDF
i'm embarking on huge project - digitizing personal library of letters, pamphlets, government documents, etc.
i've figured out how create ocr-enabled pdf's, takes care of text, i'm still not sure how deal images.
i guess i'm trying figure out best way save image - image might possible modify in future. simplest way scan pdf file, take screen shot of image if want work later.
but give me highest quality image - jpg or screen shot of pdf? other possibility save images tiffs, file size appears enormous.
am correct in understanding tiff format that's best if want resize images minimal distortion? also, possible save images jpgs or pdfs smaller file sizes, later convert jpgs or pdfs tiffs?
thanks.
jpeg lossy format - useful things don't want edit, or want low quality versions of.
tiff can lossless or lossy, depending on compression options choose, , appropriate image data.
pdf can lossless or lossy, depending on compression options choose, , appropriate text or complex documents (mixed test , images).
scanning automatically pdf lossy.
converting lossy file format lossless file format doesn't magically recover image quality/data you've lost.
