Thread: Can only connect to internet via ethernet cord.

i beginner ubuntu, please bear me. have dell inspiron laptop had windows xp removed , ubuntu installed. can connect internet via ethernet cord , trying figure out how connect wireless. under network connections laptop cannot find it. pls help. patient me, because said new program , i'm getting little frustrated @ point.

wireless cards don't play happily ubuntu, , can frustrating start with.

anyway, don't mention version of ubuntu you're using, i'm presuming it's new install of 11.10. if is, go [b]system settings[b] menu option power & shutdown menu (the cog @ top right), choose additional drivers , see if there proprietary drivers available system.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
