Thread: Rack Server 4 USB 2.0 Ports and USB Hubs Questions

i have ibm 1u rack server lucky boss gave me use workstation. have many devices, 1 powered sata hd adapter , 1 powered usb hub keyboard, bluetooth, usb external mode, , mouse plugged it, 1 powered external seagate 1tb drive, last item 15" usb cable connected wifi adapter.

have intermittent issues things usb keyboard going , down randomly, keyboard leds flash allowing me know when weird going on usb without staring @ logs day.

have 3/4 usb ports on server thats prepowered dc adapters not using server power usb devices.

main problem wireless adapter not stable. cable 15" , usb 2.0 specs on wikipedia says max length 5 meters / 16.4 feet. should being under max length usb 2.0 cable / device. wifi adapter randomly stop unpredictably.

far adapter, should use powered usb hub it? maybe pulling power? high gain wifi adapter @ 2000mw, or 2watts. , cause other devices though prepowered have random issues?

, 4 port powered hub im using thats having weird issues of keyboard being slow, or repeating keys type typing ifconfig types iiiiiiiiiiifffconfig. hub problem? old hub been using long time maybe 5+ years.

dont understand if powered usb hubs can usb devices work better because not pulling power off system itself. i've read daisy chaining hubs myth , doesnt work well. im hoping advice on how should run usb devices. replies appreciated.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
