Thread: Ubuntu 11.10 on P4 1GB RAM slow

i have read many articles cant seem find works. many people have said others system requirements running should fine.

got-
dell dimension 2400
intel pentium 4 @ 2.19ghz
1 gb ram
40gb hdd
250gb hdd use storage.
intel(r) 82845g/gl/ge/pe/gv graphics controller onboard
running windows xp pro sp3

xp runs super fast , snappy me no problems, wanted try out linux, more security. tried ubuntu , slow. dual booted xp , slow couldnt use it. takes 20 seconds open andything including menus.

it's still slow in 2d mode, , on livecd makes me think hardware related. when go additional drivers, nothing comes up, not sure if thats normal? in smartdrive appears good.

kind of lost now, dont want give appreciated!

your pc's video card may integrated in motherboard, has video card of manufacture / hardware architecture because if computer had no video card unlikely have been able post above.

first need find out pc's video card manufacture , specifications.
go winxp's device manager find out is.
you're missing drivers, if it's nvidia derivative.
