Accessing the Quick and Guided Editor in Elements 11

several months go installed photoshop element 11/ premier elements. both worked fine. in elements cannot access quick or guided editing space whereas before could. can access expert space now. did not fool of settings. how come?

presume have closed down , re-opened elements 11.  if have dialogue box open stops doing things until closed.  have fallen trap !

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
