Thread: 10.10 splash screen appears and nothing else on restart from 10.04 to 10.10

hello

while trying upgrade desktop 10.04 10.10 there errors similar ones reported @ page http://askubuntu.com/questions/20719...o-ubuntu-10-10

followed advice on same page , uninstalled
xserver-xorg-video-all (and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau).

upgrade proceeded smoothly, not sure if should reinstall l xserver-xorg-video-all (and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau).before completing upgrade restart, did not reinstall packages.

desktop did not restart. 10.10 splash screen visible after screen flickered no visible signs of activity, not grub menu or grub prompt or shell.

should do? due xserver-xorg-video-all (and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau). uninstall ? there way of adding these packages live cd these packages belong?

thank you.

it not run desktop without working xserver. binding graphics layer base linux system.

boot. after boot messages, hold down <shift> key. grub menu should appear. press <e> key. in edit mode of first grub menu item. <arrow down> line starts "linux". <arrow right> says " quiet splash " , replace text " --verbose text ". press <cntrl><x> boot.

boot verbose messaging turned on can see errors. continue tty text console login. there can reinstall xserver-xorg-video-all , xserver-xorg-video-nouveau via
code:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-all xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
good luck , waiting hear how goes you.
