Thread: All TTY (full screen terminal) screens garbled

i'm not sure if ubuntu problem or virtualization problem. i'm leaning more ubuntu problem though. i'm running 11.10 inside vm windows 7 host , terminal screens garbled (by pressing ctrl-alt-f1 thru f6). see screen shot. has had problem before? happened after video card on windows crashed hard (gtx460m) , had hard reset computer , reinstall drivers.. have feeling know why card crashed , that's because running oclhashcat version try @ md5 pw (within windows7) few days before that. anyway, can use terminal far typing can barely see anything. can gui of desktop , in ctrl-alt-f7 mode, , can launch terminal in unity pressing ctrl-alt-t other tty windows garbled. before video card crashed, tty screens did work. i've restarted guest , host machines too. i'm trying learn command line , prefer use tty windows instead of gui can focus on command line. need fix tty window in case x server fails. also, realized when try hit print screen in tty window, doesn't makes sense now, , when try print screen on desktop, shows black screen white dot cursor, hmm strange.

i've done search on forum , there lot of not similar cases mine. don't want mess config files , crash x server , not able anything. although vm, don't want reinstall ubuntu.

thank guys.
