Thread: Cannot install/remove software - root password

i had installed gnome-3 desktop, , went uninstall of cruft dragged along it, when software center asked root password.
that's not right, haven't set root password, , it's disabled default.

after unrelated futzing around, attempt uninstall cruft sudo apt-get, creation of new group (for own purposes), , reboot, discovered couldn't use sudo more either, apparently i'm not in sudoers group anymore.
code:
toafan@toafan-hp-ubuntu-11:~$ sudo man man [sudo] password toafan: toafan not in sudoers file. incident reported.
(it's possible accidentally kicked myself out of sudoers when added group. what's significance of group # 2000?)

don't mind going root via recovery mode fix problem, since it's of type/magnitude don't want muck without knowing need change. do mind not being able use software center, , not being able sudo.

help?

you can edit /etc/sudoers

or can add admin group or sudo group.
