Thread: Keep being told 'you are offline'.

can me please? since began use ubuntu (as ex-xp user) having problem time-consuming.
every , again, while not doing unusual, , far recall, nothing @ all, message on ubuntu
(11:10) in top right hand corner saying 'you offline'.
never had problem windows xp, , furthermore can see
modem still working , online , when connect pc running xp, find still online: on going through setup particulars can find on ubuntu, can find no explanation or solution problem apart 1 have reinstall whole of ubuntu. whereupon connected again.
on windows, there option 'repair' connection if lost, cannot see on ubuntu. things lot easier if knew why happening.
can shed light on this?

what type of connection have? wired, wireless? make/model networking card?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
