Thread: Making different sound-applications play on different ports?

i have odd wish haven't been able google answer , posting here, hoping have idea.

have computer hooked 2 different outputs. 1 analog 5.1 setup on desktop, other digital output home cinema receiver. switch between these depending on if want music @ desk, or in room whole.

now, i'm wondering... possible make, example, rhythmbox output on digital line receiver, while keeping other sounds on "desktop" rig? can listen music in room, notification beeps , played @ desktop.

know it's easy assign outputs if have multiple soundcards, different ports on same soundcard, possible?
