Thread: Network adapter driver for older laptop

hello everybody! hoping pick collective brain something. i've got old laptop (from 2007 or earlier) i've installed ubuntu 10.04 onto. connects internet fine wired connection, can't find wireless driver on it's own, did digging , turned this driver.

here's issue: instructions add 2 lines kernel configuration file. found instructions on forum on how find grub files , how add edits 40_custom , use update-grub apply them, (being new ubuntu) i'm i've missed step. 1 thing, connection options still tell me wireless disabled.

know laptop can connect wirelessly when drivers working, having used machine operating system before. suggestions? bow collective expertise =)

first step figure out device laptop uses. can open terminal , type in
code:
lspci -vvn
paste output here , can guide there. please don't edit grub or take other steps without knowing doing. grub bootloader , has no effect on wireless.
