Thread: Software Update Problems

hi everyone,

have had problem quite time , it"s starting on nerves.

whenever try update using software update following error:

w:failed fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/di...curity/release unable find expected entry 'sound/binary-i386/packages' in release file (wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)
, w:failed fetch http://za.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...neiric/release unable find expected entry 'sound/source/sources' in release file (wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)
, w:failed fetch http://za.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...curity/release unable find expected entry 'sound/source/sources' in release file (wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)

, e:some index files failed download. have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

package information hasn't been updated in 42days it's getting serious. i've tried modify sources.list file no effect.

not neeed "deb-src" lines , word sound should not in of lines.

deb http://za.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-backports main restricted universe multiverse

that line needs commented out using # symbol @ start of line.

alternative generate new sources.list here , replace current sources.list clean list.

should add multiverse repository.
