Thread: USB Drive Trash Handling
is there simple reference document anywhere describes how ubuntu handles deleting files on usb drive?
if not, wonder - why not?
far can see many threads & articles & tests:
if "delete" file usb drive, disappear nautilus & can think gone, still on usb in hidden folder called .trash-1000 or similar.
appears momentarily in own trash folder, disappears there.
deleting files not create free space on usb.
if want delete afterwards, no going .trash-1000/files folder & "delete"ing it, reappear there suffix.
generates new file in .trash-1000/info folder...
can remove file .trash-1000 using "shift + delete" & confirming want delete.
alternatively, can delete whole .trash-1000 folder & contents, shift + delete.
[edit: can delete whole .trash-1000 folder & contents delete.]
if want delete file usb without ever going via trash, can use "shift + delete" @ stage & no .trash-1000 folder created @ all.
instead of "shift + delete", modify nautilus include "delete" option existing "move trash" option.
there corresponding cli commands too.
it, or there other subtleties have not discovered?
again, if available.
when having trash problems while back, bluexrider kindly pointed me @ excellent how to:

don't think deals usb drives.
