Illustrator CS6 not printing all of a sudden

hello,

 

it's been while since needed print using illustrator on home computer, when tried, gave me lot of problems. firstly, checked "print file" default. when went uncheck option , hit okay, bringing window showed print file checkbox still checked -- it's never saved unchecked it. when go print right after unchecked print file, shows loading box (like when illustrator performing intensive action), goes 7% , stops , never continues.

 

i can see how perhaps enormous document lots of stuff going on, document regular default preset 8.5"x11" cmyk 300dpi sheet few vector shapes, pattern background, , text. test, tested new document simple squiggly line path , nothing else, , did exact same thing.

 

i tested other programs in adobe suite well. indesign has same problem. however, both photoshop , fireworks prints fine. photoshop tested vector shapes see if perhaps vector vs raster problem, , still printed fine.

 

i noticed illustrator defaulting print preset called 'custom' instead of normal '[default]' i'm used seeing. setting [default] nothing issue, either way wondering how reset print presets, if knows.

 

for reference, on windows 7 64-bit pc 4gb ddr2 , 300gb free hdd space. know fact same hardware setup , windows installation has printed illustrator documents fine before.

 

any ideas?
