Recovery multi-layered .psd file

hi, have large .psd file 1.56 gb 27000 x 7200 pixels. i've been able save ps6 crashed (running os x 10.8.3 ssd 8gb ram) , getting following message "could not complete request because file not compatible version of photoshop".

 

i've tried everything, gimp opens doc export flattens layers in folders , un-useable. can't open backups. apart trying command line utility convert .psd .psb file (it exports layers .png files) have advice?

 

there never prompt save .psb file, consider major bug.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
