Thread: 11.10 - Intel 82945G Graphics Chipset - New Install

***please see post for working solution. have contributed in particular josé antonio rey (joseeantonior) located in launchpad.

i've been away ubuntu several years. i've installed 11.10 on new hand-me-down computer. can't believe changes 7.04 now. i'll keep opinion regarding unity interface different topic. here problem.

i'm having problems configuring graphics card. i'm not alone. forums littered people having problems intel integrated 82945g graphics chipset, problems compounded no current xorg.conf file.

here details:

kevdog@mrgiggles:~$ lshw -c display

kevdog@mrgiggles:~$ lspci -nn | grep vga
00:02.0 vga compatible controller [0300]: intel corporation 82945g/gz integrated graphics controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)

kevdog@mrgiggles:~$ xrandr

card supposed use xserver-xorg-video-intel - x.org x server -- intel i8xx, i9xx display driver. noticed device unclaimed in lshw statement. i'm guessing using generic vesa driver. because there no longer exists form of xorg.conf specificy driver, how resolve issue, or can i? realize integrated graphics chipset old.

suggestions.

there no xorg.conf now

post result of
code:
lspci -nnk
just top section graphics info
