Thread: 11.10 not installing

hello, i'm new ubuntu, bear me.

trying install 11.10 dual boot winxp, several problems keep occurring. first, when try use standard cd installation (insert disc , reboot), shows splash screen, hangs on black screen flashing line. if press enter on splash screen, list of options, 2 work are, memory test, , boot first hard drive. after trying numerous times method, decided try running wubi.exe inside windows. installation went off without hitch, after reboot, hangs on black screen after countdown completing installation. pressed escape more options 1 time, , option worked (i think like) apci workaround. allowed installation finish, after rebooting, went straight grub menu, , either option (regular , recovery mode) locks up.
appreciated.

specs are:

primary os: windows xp media center sp3
memory: 1.5 gb
processor: pentium 4 3.0 ghz hyper-threading
hard drive: 420 gb across 3 hard drives (160 gb on primary)
ati radeon xpress 200 on board graphics
on-board sound.

1)- pc has 3 hard-drives ? or 3 partitions on 1 hard-drive ?
2)- tried option --try ubuntu-- after boot cd?
3)- boot of windows os normal(regular, usual)?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
