Thread: Block Flash Ads? Tried Privoxy, not working

my google chrome browser uses ton of cpu display flash ads..i'd block them. (but still want able view youtube videos , hulu, etc.)

tried downloading , installing privoxy, using synaptic.

tried change global proxy settings in /etc/environment using gksudo thunar in graphical mode. added line export http_proxy="127.0.0.1:8118" , saved file.

(i first tried use gksu /etc/environment in terminal after entering password nothing come up. didn't tell me password incorrect though...just nothing happened.)

after cleaning out history, cookies, etc , reloading chrome, ads still appeared...pages loaded slower though.

problem?

system: dell b110, 2.8 ghz celeron processor, 2gb ram, xubuntu 11.10

i don't use chrome, i'd suggest alternative. firefox adblock. hides ads. add ghostery , can block cookies well.
